After the withdrawal of Imperial troops is ordered from the ice world of Cressida, a squad of Valhallan Ice Warriors led by the indomitable Colonel Stanislav Steele are are sent on a rescue mission to find a stranded Imperial dignitary and bring him off-planet to safety. Ice Guard is the second novel in the Hammer of the Emperor omnibus, and the fifth novel in the Astra Militarum series. This one follows the Valhallan Ice Warriors on their quest to rescue a preacher from a group of traitors on a planet about to be exterminatus’d. So, this book is kind of short, its only like ~160 pages as opposed to Gunheads’ ~300, so I don’t think there’s that much that I can say really overall. I don’t have that much to compliment in this book, so ill do it all here. The story is competent, it’s a bit nice to see enemies tat aren’t just orks again like that have been in every story in this series so far, hopefully there will be some more variety in later books.
