Elie Mystal: Allow Me to Retort (Hardcover, 2022, New Press, The)

An analysis of how bad seeds grow diseased trees, with an emphasis on the Bill …

Allow Me to Retort: A Black Guy's Guide to the Constitution 5 / 5 stars A pointed, definitely anti-conservative, sometimes profane analysis of white supremacist roots of the Constitution of the United States of America. Elie has a distinct writing voice that some might find offensive, but I urge you to look past it and absorb the history he is sharing and his clear eyed assessment of our Constitution and possible ways to make it better for everyone. Definitely read the Epilogue for his candidate suggestions for improvement.

Diana Wynne Jones: Castle in the air (1991, Greenwillow Books)

Having long indulged himself in daydreams more exciting than his mundane life as a carpet …

5 / 5 stars

A wonderful second book in the series. Abdullah's story slowly builds and reveals his character and wit. When characters from the first Bill finally started appearing I was fully invested in Abdullah's story. It was good to have them but they were incidental to me. #Bookstodon
